Graece Υ῾πόςτασις, vox in Eccl. Dei frequens: In Symbolo Athanasii occurrit, de Persona, praeeunte Scripturâ, Hebr. c. 1. v. 3. Ubi Christus dicitur χαρακτὴρ τῆς ὑποςτάσεως τȏυ πατρὸς, Character subsistentiae (i. e. personae) Partis, q. d. imago sic Patrem exprimens quemadmodum id, quod in cera est, exprimit formam, quae est in sigillo. Ut morose nimis diu olim Latini Patres vocem refugerint, tres Hypostases in divinis admittere renuentes; co quod existimarent, ut Augustin. ait de Trinit. l. 7. c. 8. et 9. quod hoc substantiam significaret vocabulum, fides autem unam tantum in Deo substantiam esle doceret. De qua Latinorum haesitatione ad Euseb. Ep. 10. sic Basil. Quale nobis auxilium ab Occidentalium supercilio et fastu aderit, qui veritatem neque norunt, neque dicere sustinent. Donec tractu temporis melius edocti vocem admisêrunt, vide Dom. Mac. In Hierol. Sed et hodie Mennonitae aliique illam aversantur; verum longe deteriori consilio: cum ipsam SS.
